Scientific Experiments for Homeschoolers
Young children from less stress in favor of science in school, so our parents to help them in building the scientific mind. The following article describes an easy experience for parents who want their children engaged in science. I use this experience to my students in grade 8 science, but they have adapted for use by small children. I even tested on my own 5 – and 3-year-old who survived and enjoyed.
Simple science experiments for the promotion of scientific thinking
The children of today have little contact with science in elementary school. And science, I mean research, testing, analysis and retesting of the principles of the scientific method. Therefore it is our parents provide opportunities if we want our children to the scientific spirit. How children learn words, rarely straight, hands on simple experiments provide a perfect opportunity to introduce or strengthen scientific thinking.
How we present experiments a significant impact on their effectiveness. The experience with questions like “What do you think’s happening?” Whether the end of the beginning: “Can you do differently? “The children head to the right place. Also let children “play” with the material before the start of an experience leads her material on the Internet to think together and allows self-test.
Not every parent thinks proper place exciting experiences, but. There are many good resources out there, but sometimes we need something fast for us to worry about. Check the simple experiment below to get you started. This measure your “students” to pour, mix, and regardless of their learning and their sense of competence to maximize. There will be pleased to learn that very little cleaning is involved.
Chemical reaction in a bag
Purpose
To see what happens when you mix vinegar and baking powder in a sealed bag
Material
Film canisters (or similar containers)
Ziplock bags that seal (quart size) closed
¼ cup vinegar
1 teaspoon baking powder
Thermometer
Internships
1.Put a teaspoon baking powder first in the field of film.
2. Pour ¼ cup of vinegar in the plastic bag.
3. Search and record the temperature of the vinegar (the thermometer at least 1 minute).
4. Place the cup baking soda in the bag, but do not stir again.
5. zippered bag almost closed, and press the air out and seal the bag completely.
6.Predicting what will happen in the bag and the temperature when you mix baking soda into the vinegar.
7. Mix all the baking soda in the vinegar, turning the whole bag.
8.note and observations!
9. Open the bag and measure the temperature of the liquid.
10. Ask what else can be done and do it again.
11. prompt further thinking about “How can more or less vinegar or baking soda paste on the temperature or speed bag filled?” And “how things affect the temperature of the vinegar?”
The science behind the experiment
The chemical reaction between vinegar and baking soda creates carbon dioxide, a gas. Since the gas is more memory than the sum of liquid and solid, it is inflated. The weight of the bag does not change during the experiment, because nothing new is created: the original material to make changes only. The temperature drops, because the reaction is endothermic, which means to draw in the heat of the reaction means.
Well produced, an experience that heat (exothermic) rather than to remove it:
Steel wool heat
Material
Steel wool
Vinegar
Glass cup with lid polystyrene with a hole for a straw
Thermometers (affected by the hole in the lid)
Internships
1. Place the thermometer close to the glass and the lid.
2.Wait about 5 minutes and record the temperature.
3. remove the thermometer in the pot.
4. Weigh a piece of steel wool.
5. Enjoy them in vinegar for 1 minute.
6. Press vinegar made from steel wool pad. Wrap steel wool around the bulb of the thermometer.
7. Place the thermometer and steel wool back into the pan and close the lid.
8. Wait 5 minutes.
9. Predicting what will happen to the temperature.
10. Take a look at the temperature.
11. (Optional) to predict what happens on earth.
12. Rinse gently (no rust falls off) and dry steel wool and then weighed.
The science behind the experiment
The vinegar removes any protective coating from steel wool, so that the rusting of iron in the steel. Rest is also accelerated by the acidity of the vinegar. The rusty steel wool should be clear. Rest is a slow combination of iron with oxygen. If this happens, the heat energy released. The heat released by the rusting of iron, mercury in the thermometer to expand and grow, is an exothermic reaction.
The extra oxygen in the rust should also lead to the wool pad to weigh more (rust, four iron atoms bound to three oxygen molecules, each of two oxygen atoms) and a number of water molecules.
